Younger Children

Younger children (grades 1 – 3) continue learning to match pitch and sing in a beautiful head tone. They branch into purposeful music making by:
  • Recognizing and replicating melodic and rhythmic patterns
  • Learning how melodies move and reading notation represented by musical notes and other images
  • Identifying melodic movement and meter changes
  • Playing pitched and non-pitched percussion instruments
  • Moving to express changes in dynamics and tempo
  • Memorizing scripture through songs, rhythmic speech, and movement
  • Learning about authors, composers, and church musicians from biblical to modern times
